Hillsdale Supports TEAM KYLER

Hillsdale Teachers Mrs. Scarbrough and Ms. Samuels participated in Triathlon for our 8th grader Kyler Moore on Sunday, Oct. 18th. Kyler had his leg amputated in June after life-long complications with a birth mark on his foot. We are proud of his courage and perseverance. Here is a message from Kyler’s family about the event.

The Challenged Athletes Foundation Triathlon was amazing. We had two teams race, bike and run for Kyler and several showed up to walk the 5k with him personally! It was so humbling and made our hearts to full. Our Hillsdale team raised $2937 which was amazing, our other team was only able to raise $1000 so Hillsdale blew us away! Between all the teams and our 5k in total yesterday we raised $4914 which much of the 5k donations came from Hillsdale students as well. WE are so humbled and appreciative that to date the Heartland Fire Octoberstache has almost reached $16,000 coming into their final event which is this Friday night, Oct. 23rd.

Yesterday, Challenged Athletes Foundation also announced on their big stage that Kyler was a recipient of a grant this year to build him a specialized soccer/running Occur leg. Kyler was so happy and excited. He cannot wait to have part of his life back with sports! Thanks again to Hillsdale for helping us along the way. It truly takes a village, and Hillsdale has been side by side with us throughout this entire journey. We could have never gotten through 6-7th grade without your staff and teacher’s support. Mrs. Scarbrough is truly one of kind she gave him so much encouragement that inspired him during some very low times. Ms. Samuels said as soon as she met us ” I would love to help you and I know how to swim and raise money”! Two fine humans who show such an incredible desire to help their students beyond just the classroom. We are eternally grateful to you all! Enjoy the pictures. There is also a flyer for our Friday Octoberstache event.
