Sevick Suns Shining Brightly

Amber Pierce, a Sevick parent and artist, spearheaded this project, with support from the PTA, using the Sevick Suns’ logo as a theme for creating panels of suns from different regions around the globe. These spectacular panels not only create a welcoming feel to our school, they also celebrate our multicultural and diverse school community. We had a dedication at our Back to School Night and a representative from Senator Joel Anderson’s office presented a certificate of recognition to Amber for her efforts in this project. Several PTA Board members (well, we only have 3) and Amber’s family volunteered to paint the walls and install the panels. James Beard was also a great support throughout.

Donations from staff, Sevick families, District staff and the El Cajon community , as well as Amber’s creative and artistic talents, made this project a reality. Amber made each mosaic panel by hand using a special tile and glass donated by parents and Dal Tile. Additional community support included donations from Home Depot, Toyota of El Cajon, Home Depot, Ducky’s Barbershop and Thunderbird Products.

All donations were honored on a plaque mounted on the wall next to the murals. Each donor and level of donation were included on the plaque, and any amount was recognized.

We are in debt to Amber, our school and community for moving this project from concept to completion.
